Achieving
More Together

Self-awareness

Kanjertraining

Each child is a unique individual and part of a group. This requires social skills and adaptability. ‘Kanjertraining’ teaches our children to think about themselves and others in a positive way. Teachers stimulate children to solve problems themselves, providing all the necessary tools.

Learning through discovery

Presenting and learning by researching

We equip our children with all the skills they will need in the future. ICT, science and technology are important pillars of our education. We teach children critical and creative reflection. What’s more, by giving them the opportunity to frequently present, we help them develop their sense of self-awareness and confidence.

Durable togetherness

Neighbourhood centre for children

Almost all of the children from our school are from the Ypenburg district. Therefore, the school plays a connecting role within the district, bringing everyone together. We act as a neighbourhood centre for children, where childcare, nursery groups and education come together and seamlessly connect. This makes our role even more complete.

Our School

School plays a crucial role in your child’s development. Eight years of primary education are an important part of every child's life. Throughout this period, you will trust your child to the school of your choice: an institute with an excellent atmosphere and a learning environment that suits you and your child.

Zonnestraal (Sunbeam) lies at the heart of the Ypenburg district. In addition to standard subjects such as reading and writing skills and numeracy, we focus on talent development and 21st century skills. Teaching methods are adapted to the learning needs of each individual child and we ensure every pupil will be ready for his or her future – which will be wonderful!

"Every day our daughter is hopping her way to school, thanks to the warm and friendly atmosphere at Zonnestraal. An enthusiastic and dedicated team is ready to make every class a fun experience."

Erik (5) wants to become a pirate

A very nice pirate, though. For at our Octant school, Eric learns how to work together with others. He also learns to choose wisely, so he may opt for ophthalmology instead of a career in piracy.

De Zonnestraal is part of Octant

Octant operates eight Christian schools in nine locations. Octant schools are characterized by their endless striving towards growth. We focus on growth through quality improvement every day. Staff regularly attend school themselves: our own academy, at which teachers and staff receive training that helps them become even better at their tasks, is just one way in which we realise our ambitions. We improve quality by constantly adapting our teaching to today’s society. We place an emphasis on science and technology. Three core values provide the bedrock for all our efforts: 'Self-awareness', 'Learning through discovery' and 'Durable togetherness’.
